It doesn’t matter where we practice yoga, in the studio, on the beach, in the hotel, in the airplane or at home, the following tips will be very helpful to create great energy for your practice. These yoga tips involve both things to do to prepare for classes, and things to keep in mind during classes.

  • If you have a permanent injury or health condition, please talk with your doctor about which poses might be best for you
  • The most important thing you'll need to get started is an open mind and a big, open heart! Bring a smile with you too!
  • Some yoga accessories you might like to have available are: yoga mat, yoga block, yoga strap, a skidless towel, yoga pillow, yoga hand and foot gloves.
  • Form-fitting stretch pants and shirts are the best to wear for easy movement and comfort in any pose.
  • Best to eat at least 2 hours before practice. Feeling hungry? Have a very light snack before the class.
  • Every yoga practice begins with the warm up, which prepares us for more vigorous movements and poses. So, let’s start the practice from the beginning, follow all the way through, and finish with Savasana - relaxation pose. Every practice is sequenced in a certain way for a reason.
  • In yoga we breathe through the nose only, inhalations and exhalations are long and deep. This helps us to better connect with our body and know, how far to go in each pose, when less is more, or when to rest.
  • Yoga teaches us to honor our body, and listen… our body communicates with us through a special language of sensations. Let’s listen to what it tells us, rest when the body is asking for it, and choose options which suit our unique body the best.
  • Have a Yoga Buddy! Or, better yet, join the whole community of buddies! Try to get a friend to do yoga with you. You can encourage each other and keep each other accountable. Consistency is one of the most important keys to success!
  • Be kind and patient with yourself and with the process. When we choose to stay with yoga practice, the positive results are inevitable!
